An Introduction to Volunteering with London Autism Group Charity

Our small dedicated team do a huge amount of community support work for the entire London Autistic Community, including Autistic people, their families and carers.

A full list of what we did in the last year can be found in our Newsletter, which you can download on the front page of our website

Here are some examples of the different types of help that we need:

  • We have a social media presence on all major platforms.  It would be helpful to have admin support posting updates and checking for messages.  We also welcome any suggestions or support you might be able to give in creating images, or video content for social media campaigns.

  • Our website has a big reach, and we receive messages from the public every day. Volunteers can support us by helping to answer messages and directing people to the right support.  Volunteers will have training and support in how to do this.  Admin tasks have been broken down to make them more manageable and volunteers will have access to our Library of helpful documents.

  • Our Team also attends events throughout the year, to give people support and to increase Public awareness of the Charity. We appreciate the attendance of volunteers at these events.  This involves helping us run a stall, give our leaflets and advice where needed. This year we have already attended the Autism Show at London Excel.  On July 30th we will be attending the Autistic Inclusive Meets Pride Fair and Craft show at Woolwich.

  • We also run several monthly Community Cafe drop in sessions, at weekends. Currently these are at Southgate, Ealing, Woodford and Old Street.  We are also looking to open more of the same at different sites across London. We are looking to build teams of volunteers in South London where we plan to start new monthly sessions over the next few years.
The drop in sessions provide a forum and safe space for the Autistic Community of all ages to come together.  It requires the presence of volunteers for sessions to run smoothly and to make sure participant's needs are being met. Volunteers can help giving people hot or cold drinks, engaging with people and introducing them to other attendees, or helping supervise activities that we may provide to the local community.

  • Volunteers may also want to help the Charity by fundraising on our behalf.  This can be achieved in a number of different ways, depending on your preference. Please see our
Fundraising page for some examples.  There are many ways to fundraise on our behalf.  You can be assured that every penny will be put into supporting the London Autistic Community.

  • The Charity also welcomes professionals to help us apply for different Grants and to help forge Commercial Partnerships with those who share our ethical stance on Autism.
This extra funding will help us to provide even more vital services to support the different needs of the Autistic Community.
